Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
