World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
